‘How to’? Find the Right Plant for the Right Place – Shade Lovers

If you have a dark room, don’t worry; plenty of plants can tolerate low light levels. Many will have originated from forest floors under the tree canopy.

Some shade lovers prefer a damp environment, such as a shady bathroom with plenty of humidity. Others prefer an environment with lower humidity, like a hallway.

Dry shade lovers:

  • Aglaonema (Chinese Evergreen) – Striking pointy leaves in many shades of pink, green and yellow.
  • Aspidistra (Cast Iron Plant) – As the name suggests, this plant can withstand most environments and thrives on neglect!
  • Kentia Palm – Bring those tropical vibes to your home, but don’t expose it to draughts.
  • Zamioculcas (ZZ Plant) – Lush and structural, this easy to care for plant thrives on neglect.

 

Damp shade lovers:

  • Spathiphyllum (Peace Lily) – With striking white flowers, this plant is happy in a shady corner.
  • Nephrolepis (Boston Fern) – A graceful green, drooping fronds, perfect in a hanging pot.
  • Asplenium (Bird’s Nest Fern) – This plant has beautiful glossy green, pleated foliage that will make a statement.
  • Begonia – famous for its attractive foliage or flowers.
