You may have heard about Xylella fastidiosa. This is one of the most harmful bacterial plant diseases in the world. It can cause severe losses in a wide range of plant hosts and there would be a massive impact on the plant trade across all business sectors in the event of an outbreak in the UK.
It is affecting some of our most loved plants including many popular garden and landscape plants, such as lavender, rosemary, oak and many others.
Here at Perrywood, we are taking measures to stop this terrible plant disease entering the UK whilst still continue to source and supply to you the best range of plants possible.
Under the guidance of the The Horticultural Trades Association (HTA) and the Garden Centre Association (GCA):
- We will NOT knowingly purchase any plants originating from regions where the disease Xylella is known to exist
- We are only buying potential host plants from trusted plant passported suppliers who know where their plants come from
- Training our plant area staff in detection of pests and diseases
- Intensifying surveillance for pests and diseases
What you need to do
It is also important, as a gardener, that you report any unusual symptoms on your plants in your garden. You can visit the RHS website www.rhs.org.uk to report any unusual symptoms on your plants.
