‘How to’? Introduce Little Ways to Plant Hope

Our ‘Plant Hope’ campaign aims to help our customers find little ways to become more sustainable to help change for a better future.

We have lots of information in store and online, full of tips and advice on small things we can do to make a big difference in supporting the environment.

To get started, discover some little ways we can be more sustainable whilst shopping and in the garden. Here are our five top tips:

Attract Bees and Butterflies

By creating pollinator friendly spaces within our gardens we can help support vulnerable populations while enjoying better harvests.

Pollinating insects require two things in order to survive: food (nectar and pollen) and shelter. All we need to do as gardeners is simply use pollinator friendly plants.

Read our ‘How to‘ guide to find out what plants you can grow in your garden.

Save Water

With continual population growth and climate change, it is becoming more important to think about conserving water wherever possible.

During the dry summer months, watering the garden becomes an extra daily task for lots of us, to help you save time, money and water whilst keeping your garden looking good you can:

Use a water butt

Buy drought-tolerant plants

Use mulch

Put containers together in a shady spot

Use greywater

Cut your grass less

Read our ‘How to’ guide for more information.

Grow Your Own

Whether you have just a windowsill to spare or an entire empty vegetable patch, it makes no difference to the enjoyment you can have producing your own food.

If you grow your own food there is no need for plastic packaging and pollution due to travel which has its environmental benefits. You will also see a lot less food waste as you can pick as you go.

Why not try using peat-free compost, organic feeds and natural pesticides when growing your vegetables?

Switch to Peat-Free

Historically peat has been a major ingredient in potting compost, but we now realise that we must stop using it in order to protect our planet. The extraction of peat destroys valuable ecosystems and releases stored carbon which contributes to climate change.

Switching to using peat-free compost at home is a simple step towards helping to support sustainability.

Read our ‘How to’ guide to getting the most out of your peat-free compost.

Buy Local

There is nothing better than buying local, not only are you supporting a local business but you are reducing the travel needed.

We grow many plants on site in our busy nursery. When buying our Perrywood Grown plants you can guarantee low plant miles which is great for the environment.
