‘How to’? Save Energy and Money This Christmas

Energy bills are higher than ever and Christmas can become an extremely expensive time of the year for most.

If you want to decorate your house with lots of twinkly lights and outdoor decorations you may be concerned about the additional cost. However, we have some energy saving tips and surprising news that will enable you to enjoy all your Christmas lights and save money!

  • LED bulbs consume up to 80% less energy than standard non LED bulbs. All of our Christmas lights at Perrywood contain LED bulbs and there is plenty to choose from. Don’t worry having your house illuminated at Christmas with lots of lights indoors and out will cost you very little extra!

Below are some examples of LED Christmas products with surprisingly low running time figures (cost per day/month based on running 8 hours per day/for 8 hours a day, 30 days a month):

  • When you are positioning your Christmas tree why not have a move around? If any sofas or other furniture are in front of a radiator, now’s the time to move them as this will make sure the radiators have space to project the heat into the room.
  • Timers are your best friend when it comes to Christmas lights. Many of our outdoor lights come with timers included, or you can buy digital plug ins to help manage the amount of time your Christmas lights are on for.

Here are some extra energy saving tips you can put in place over Christmas time:

  • If you precook/boil your food before roasting you can reduce cooking time. Also, try and get as much in the oven as you can in one go, rather than turning it on and off. Once you have finished cooking, leave the oven door open to enjoy the extra warmth.
  • Turn off the TV and enjoy spending time with your family with a board game instead.
  • Switch any electrical items completely off so they are not on standby – did you know this could save you £76 a year?!
