Sustainable products at Perrywood

We are very passionate about protecting the natural environment and are continuously working with our suppliers to make sure we source sustainable products wherever possible. Here are a few of our favourites from our garden, clothing, gift and food & drink ranges. Look out for them in store and make your home more eco-friendly.

Wildlife World manufactures its wooden products from FSC® certified timber. They use naturally durable timbers which require a more complex drying time but eliminates the need for chemical preservatives.

Products are treated with water-based stains and paints, they replace plastic and metals with recycled materials where they can and a high percentage of their packaging is made from recycled cardboard.

Haxnicks bamboo pots, saucers and seed trays are made using sustainable bamboo fibre. They are very durable and can last up to 5 years – once finished with you can add them to your compost heap.

Grow it fibre pots and seed trays are ideal for seeds, seedlings and cuttings. They are made from biodegradable wood pulp and can be planted straight in the ground to avoid disturbing root growth.

Thought clothing uses natural, organic and recycled fabrics which help to lower their impact on the planet. Some of the clothing range is made from wool, its natural fibres have thermal properties meaning it’s super-soft and cosy.

Then there’s their organic cotton, this doesn’t need as much water or harmful chemicals as conventional cotton. They also use bamboo and hemp, both are soft and comfortable to wear and gentle on the environment too; growing fast and using minimal resources. All natural fibres are of course biodegradable creating less waste going to landfills.

LIGA is a family business drawing inspiration from nature to design eco homewares for everyday living, using only sustainable materials. We stock an amazing range of eco friendly cork which is naturally harvested every nine years without harming the Cork Oak Tree. Alongside these, we have their range of Beach Clean products that are made from recycled EVA plastics (like flip flops) and eco friendly cork.

LIGA values:

Sustainable materials only – “We make all of our eco homewares using sustainable or recycled materials only. Some of our favourites are cork, organic cotton, recycled plastics + bamboo.”

Plastic Free Packaging – “Here at LIGA, we have chosen packaging for all of our products and orders that are 100% plastic free.”

Affordable Eco Living – “We have chosen our materials carefully to ensure that we make our eco friendly products as affordable as possible whilst still being good for the planet.”

Walton & Co are gradually swapping their packaging with more eco friendly alternatives to plastic such as cardboard hangers, cotton or jute strings. A lot of the cardboard used is FSC sourced and after use can be fully recycled.

Heyland & Whittle use natural ingredients to create their handmade soaps – such as olive oil, essential oils, herbs, spices and pure colourants, like madder root and turmeric.

They have also introduced their new eco collection of reed diffusers, hand-poured candles and palm oil-free soaps which are made using recycled glass, 100% recycled card and 100% recyclable packaging.

Clockwork Soldier uses minimal waste and FSC Certified card and paper for their products that are recycled or sourced from sustainably managed forests. They are currently working on becoming fully plastic-free and are always looking for ways to make their products more environmentally friendly.

We have other sustainable children’s toys that we have listed in our news post here.

Pooch’s dog treats are baked individually and handmade with locally sourced ingredients. Their packaging is made from renewable resources which are biodegradable.

Glick luxury gift wrap and accessories have added more recyclable and recycled products to their range. They offer gift bags, wrap, boxes, tags, paper bows plus recycled cotton twine.

We also have other loose wrapping paper and cards that use no cellophane in our gift area.

Sapling Spirits produce alcohol that is vegan, gluten free, planet friendly, recyclable and local which reduces transport emissions. For every bottle sold a tree is planted, there is a unique code on your bottle that tells you what tree was planted, where and a little about the planting project.

East Coast Distillery try not to use single use plastics in their production of gin, the labels and packaging are all from recycled paper/cardboard. To reduce their carbon footprint, they try to use as much local produce as possible and only when in season or available – when foraging they are careful to follow guidelines to ensure that the local environment is protected.
They also recycle used botanicals by having them made into soap (by a lovely professional lady in Colchester) which customers can buy in their shop based in Thorpe Le Soken.
From every bottle sold they donate to local coastal charities – this year (2022) it is the Naze Protection Society.

Stour Valley Apiaries is run by Kevin and Julie Thorn. They are very passionate about looking after their bees in Apiaries, keeping them happy and healthy, in and around Lavenham and producing pure honey with all the good bits left in.
