Raising money for Greenfingers

On Tuesday night some of our staff and members of Tiptree’s Gardening Club joined us for a gardening quiz as part of Garden Releaf Day, to raise money for Greenfingers, who build amazing gardens in hospices. The questions had been set and pre-recorded by celebrity gardeners including Alan Titchmarsh, Pippa Greenwood and Bob Flowerdew.

The teams were very competitive, even heckling the quiz master when they felt the scoring rules too harsh. I bet BBC broadcaster and compere Ken Crowther wouldn’t have to deal with such behaviour! The winning team included Trina, Tanya and Steph from our Plant Area team, Michelle our houseplant expert and Louise who looks after our Amazon online sales, and they were delighted to break free from the competition which Tiptree Gardening Club put up. Team ‘Green Goddesses’ with the club’s chair, Dave, eventually came second after some badly organised tie breaker questions – with three teams tying for second place! The best team name went to the ‘Chocolate or Green Fingers’.

Highlight of the night was the cake served by Jax and Jackie in the coffee shop and a question about Victorian Gardeners checking for frost with their bare bottoms…not an idea we will be implementing at Perrywood any time soon. Thanks to everyone who took part, I’m yet to count up the monies raised but estimate it will be more than £100, and it will go to a very worthy cause!
