We are delighted to sponsor the St Helena Gardening Group by supplying tools and equipment for each session. Patients at the Hospice take part in a therapeutic six week group session that runs throughout the year and is especially of interest to those who enjoy gardening despite their life limiting conditions and symptoms.
The group is led by Laura Murton, Occupational Therapist together with an assistant and volunteer gardener. Laura is passionate about the gardening group: “It’s social, lifts the mood, reduces isolation, and gives our group hand therapy, as sometimes they can struggle with upper limb function.”
One of the recent participants commented: “I learnt a lot and I enjoyed the trip out immensely, everyone has been attentive and helpful.”
Activities throughout the six week course range from potting herbs, planting seeds, making bird feeders and bee hotels, decorating pots, painting mosaic tiles and of course, a visit to Perrywood.
Last week, we welcomed members of the current group to Perrywood where they enjoyed a clue trail around the plant area as well as tea and cake in the Coffee Shop.
