We are delighted to announce we have raised a fantastic £21,050 for charities in 2019! The money was raised through a combination of in-store events and staff activities. We are thrilled to have raised this huge sum and thank all our customers and staff for their ongoing support.
This grand total includes the following donations to our ‘charities of the year’:
£12,823 for Colchester & Ipswich Hospitals Charity to improve facilities and fund new equipment at Colchester Hospital.
£6,235 for Kids Inspire to support children and young people recovering from traumatic experiences or dealing with emerging mental health difficulties in Essex.
£1,791 for Greenfingers Charity to create magical gardens for children in hospices.
HIGHLIGHTS INCLUDE:
In March, over 100 customers and staff joined us for a quiz night in the Coffee Shop & Restaurant and the event raised over £1,500 for Greenfingers Charity.
Coffee Shop team member Nikki took on the challenge of the Colchester Half Marathon in March this year, raising £635, which was then doubled by Perrywood to raise £1,270 for Colchester & Ipswich Hospitals Charity.
Also in March, the Coffee Shop & Restaurant team donated £1,000 to purchase a year’s supply of dominoes, playing cards, colouring pens, white boards and photo albums for dementia patients at Colchester Hospital. Instead of receiving any tips in 2019, the team chose to collect money for Colchester & Ipswich Hospitals Charity.
In June, the Coffee Shop & Restaurant team also donated £1,500 to the children’s ward at Colchester Hospital to purchase a games table (and other activity equipment). Again, this was thanks to the generous donations of our customers.
In July, Hannah and her family took part in the Walk for Wards, a 5k walk along the sunny coast of Felixstowe, raising a further £340 for Colchester & Ipswich Hospitals Charity.
Our Colchester & Ipswich Hospitals Charity tea party held in our Coffee Shop & Restaurant in July was a really uplifting event with a further £1,300 raised.
In August, our staff summer party was a very entertaining evening and a chance for all our hardworking staff to let their hair down! The raffle raised over £300 for Kids Inspire.
In October, the Coffee Shop & Restaurant team presented a cheque for £2,600 to Colchester Hospital for the purchase of two children’s cardiac recording machines, money collected through generous donations from customers.
Our October quiz night was another entertaining evening with a fantastic £1,439 raised for Kids Inspire.
In November, Houseplant team member Arif completed the ultimate challenge of a 100km trek across the Sahara Desert. He raised an amazing £1,100 for Kids Inspire, and with the match fund from Perrywood, a total of £2,200 was raised for Kids Inspire.
Finally, in December, the Coffee Shop & Restaurant team raised £1,540 to purchase Christmas presents to deliver to wards at Colchester Hospital.
These are just some of the events in 2019 that contributed to the grand total of £21,050.
In addition to this sum, Perrywood has also donated over £8,500 of plants, gardening equipment and gift vouchers to local schools, charities and individuals. This includes sponsorship of the St Helena Hospice Gardening Group and the Growing Communities competition for schools.
In 2020, we will continue to support Colchester & Ipswich Hospitals Charity, Greenfingers Charity and Kids Inspire. Our first fundraising event is the Greenfingers Charity quiz night on Thursday 12th March. Tickets for this event are now available to purchase at www.perrywood.co.uk/tickets.
